Vampire Princess Miyu Returns! Narumi Kakinouchi & Toshiki Hirano Unveil New Manga Sequel!
The Vampire Princess Miyu franchise is making a big comeback with a brand-new manga titled Vampire Princess Miyu-Yui (or Vampire Princess Miyui). This fresh installment, created by legendary manga artist Narumi Kakinouchi and anime director Toshiki Hirano, launched on Friday under GA Bunko.
So, what’s new? This time, Miyu isn’t the only vampire in the spotlight. The manga will feature Yui, the protagonist of the Vampire Yui spinoff, and for the first time ever, these two vampire heroines will cross paths! If you’re a longtime fan of the series, you know that’s a big deal.
What is Vampire Princess Miyu About?
For those unfamiliar, Vampire Princess Miyu follows a mysterious half-human, half-vampire girl named Miyu. She may look like a normal teenager, but she’s actually immortal and has a duty to hunt down Shinma, demonic creatures that invade the human world. Miyu’s story has been haunting readers since 1988, starting as a manga in Akita Shoten’s Susperia magazine and later expanding into an OVA, a full anime series, and multiple spin-offs.
The Long History of Miyu
The Vampire Princess Miyu franchise has been around for over three decades and has gone through several evolutions.
The original manga (1988–2002) ran for ten volumes and established Miyu’s dark, supernatural world.
The franchise got its first OVA (1988–1989), co-directed by Hirano.
A TV anime remake followed in 1997, introducing a fresh take on the story.
The New Vampire Princess Miyu manga launched in 1992, keeping the saga alive.
The Vampire Miyu: Saku (New Moon) manga debuted in 2017 and ended in 2022 with seven volumes.
On the other hand, Vampire Yui—Miyu’s lesser-known counterpart—had its own manga (1989–1995) and spinoffs, including The Wanderer and Yui Kanonsho. The final chapter of Yui’s story was published in 2017–2018.
Why This New Manga is a Big Deal
For the first time ever, Miyu and Yui’s paths will cross in Vampire Princess Miyu-Yui. This could mean a major expansion of the Vampire Princess Miyu lore. Will they be allies, rivals, or something in between? Only time will tell!
With this latest entry, the franchise proves that its legacy is still very much alive—even if its protagonists aren’t.
