Kodansha made an announcement on Monday regarding the Tokyo Revengers franchise, stating that it will be adapted into a stage musical that is scheduled to run in Tokyo and Osaka from November to December. The musical will be directed by Kaori Miura, known for their work on Prince of Tennis musical season 4. The script and lyrics will be provided by Muck Akazawa, who has worked on the Ensemble Stars! The stage play, while the music will be composed by musician Manzo, who is recognized for their contributions to Yowamushi Pedal and Touken Ranbu stage plays. Shōji Tōyama and YOU, who have experience with A3! stage plays and Prince of Tennis musical season 4, respectively, will handle the choreography.
Ken Wakui created the manga Tokyo Revengers which was initially serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017, with the series concluding in November 2022. Currently, Weekly Shōnen Magazine is serializing the spinoff manga titled Tokyo Revengers Extra, which delves into the backstory of the founders of the Tokyo Manji Gang.
Kodansha USA Publishing is responsible for releasing the English version of the manga, and it describes the story as follows: Takemichi Hanagaki, upon watching the news, discovers that his middle school girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has tragically passed away. The Tokyo Manji Gang, a criminal group, is responsible for her death. Takemichi lives in a substandard apartment with thin walls and faces mistreatment from his boss, who is six years younger. In addition, he is inexperienced in matters of romance. At the lowest point in his life, Takemichi suddenly leaps twelve years back in time to his middle school days. Determined to save Hinata and change the direction of his own life, Takemichi, a hopeless part-timer, must rise to the top of Kanto's most notorious delinquent gang.
The manga received its first television anime adaptation in April 2021, which was streamed by Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan. The anime featured the Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown arc, premiering on January 7 and consisting of 13 episodes. The series was also streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. The upcoming anime film, Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku-hen (Tenjiku Arc), is set to premiere in October.
In addition to the anime, the franchise succeeded with its live-action film adaptation. The first film, based on the manga, premiered in Japan in July 2021 and became the country's top-grossing live-action film of the year. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the movie. The first installment of the two-part sequel live-action film, titled Chi no Halloween -Unmei- (Bloody Halloween -Fate-), opened in Japan on April 21. The second film, Chi no Halloween -Kessen- (Bloody Halloween -Decisive Battle-), is scheduled to open on June 30.
