This news has thrilled fans who’ve eagerly awaited a continuation of the beloved story.
The anime, based on Shinichi Fukuda’s manga, first aired in January 2022 and ran for 12 episodes. It gained widespread popularity for its heartwarming story and lovable characters. Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan and provided an English dub. Crunchyroll later added the anime to its platform, making it even more accessible to international fans.
In addition to its anime success, My Dress-Up Darling also inspired a live-action adaptation, which premiered in Japan on October 8, 2023. This shows how the series has captured audiences across different formats.
My Dress-Up Darling Overview
For those new to the story, My Dress-Up Darling follows Wakana Gojō, a shy high schooler who dreams of becoming a doll artisan. Due to a childhood incident where a friend mocked his love for traditional dolls, Wakana lives a solitary life, spending his time sewing in the home economics room.
However, his world changes when Marin Kitagawa, a popular and outgoing classmate, discovers his sewing skills. Enthusiastic about cosplay, Marin convinces Wakana to help her bring her favorite characters to life. This leads to a charming story of friendship, self-discovery, and pursuing passions.
The manga, which began in Young Gangan magazine in January 2018, continues to be a hit. Square Enix released the 14th compiled volume on November 25, 2023, while the English version of the 12th volume debuted on October 22, 2023. Recently, the series shifted to monthly serialization for its “Mandate of Heaven” (Tenmei) arc, which began with Chapter 86 in January 2023.
With the sequel anime confirmed, fans of My Dress-Up Darling have much to look forward to. Whether you’re a manga reader, anime watcher, or live-action fan, this franchise continues to shine as a heartwarming celebration of art, creativity, and connection. 2025 will be an exciting year for this growing fandom!
