Oshi no Ko Creator Announces New Manga Ending – And It’s VERY Different
The hit manga series Oshi no Ko has officially concluded, wrapping up its story in a way that gives Ruby, one of the central characters, a happy ending despite the hardships she faced. Created by Aka Akasaka in 2020, Oshi no Ko became widely popular for its intense, dark take on the idol industry and its complex character arcs, which also led to a successful anime adaptation. Following the series finale, Akasaka has wasted no time in announcing a new project that’s already sparking excitement among fans.
Akasaka’s new manga, set to debut in Spring 2025, will take a fresh direction compared to the gritty, real-world themes of Oshi no Ko. The new series, published in Young Jump, will feature a fairy-tale fantasy world, a major departure from the realistic and sometimes dark narrative of Oshi no Ko. Although the title and specific plot details remain under wraps, what we know so far is that the story centers on a prince and a princess in a fantastical setting. Fans can expect a completely different tone—one focused more on traditional fairy tale elements and likely less on the hard-hitting drama seen in Akasaka’s previous work.
To bring this fantasy world to life, Akasaka is collaborating with the artist team Ajichika, known for their work on Record of Ragnarok. This four-person team has experience in detailed and expressive artwork, which should complement Akasaka’s storytelling in this new setting. The shift from a realistic modern world to a magical fantasy land has surprised fans, as Akasaka previously tackled stories grounded in real-world themes, first with the comedic romance of Kaguya-sama: Love is War and later with Oshi no Ko’s look into the entertainment industry.
In reflecting on Oshi no Ko’s conclusion, Akasaka shared his creative journey, explaining that the story’s ending was planned from the start. However, over time, his writing approach changed, allowing characters to grow in unexpected ways. This openness in character development became a defining feature of Oshi no Ko, making each character feel even more realistic and relatable. Akasaka noted that his experience with Kaguya-sama taught him to embrace unplanned developments in character arcs, adding depth to his storytelling.
With Oshi no Ko now complete and a new manga on the horizon, fans are eagerly awaiting how Akasaka will craft his next universe. Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge about this exciting new fairy tale adventure coming in 2025!
