One Piece Manga Set for Major Fall 2024 Hiatus!
The One Piece manga is preparing to take a major break in Fall 2024. This announcement, confirmed by Shueisha, has both fans and creators talking. The break will begin after the release of Chapter 1130 on October 21st in Japan. Following this, the manga will be on pause for two issues of Weekly Shonen Jump and will return on November 11th overseas, meaning fans outside Japan will get Chapter 1131 on November 10th.
This break is much needed for One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, who has been working tirelessly for decades. Oda is known for his incredible work ethic, and over the years, he's faced health challenges like insomnia. Fans are supportive of the break because they know how demanding the manga industry can be, with creators like Oda often working long hours and getting little rest. Some other artists, like Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter, have even suffered serious health issues due to the intense work schedule.
Right now, One Piece is in the middle of a new and exciting arc, as the Straw Hat Pirates have reached Elbaf Island. The story is dropping crucial details about the Sun God and Joy Boy, which ties into the mysterious Void Century. Fans are eager to see what happens next, but they understand Oda needs the time to rest.
Along with the manga break, the One Piece anime is also gearing up for a hiatus. Starting in October 2024, the anime will go on a six-month break, pausing the Egghead Island arc until April 2025. However, fans won't be left completely without content. Toei Animation is planning a remaster of the Fishman Island arc, complete with updated visuals, new music, and Dolby sound. There’s also an anime special, One Piece Fan Letter, set to debut in Japan on October 20, which will adapt part of a spin-off novel about Luffy’s crew.
In addition, Netflix is working on a second season of its live-action One Piece series, which is currently filming in South Africa. And in Japan, Wit Studio is creating a full remake of the anime. With all these exciting projects, the Straw Hat crew is set to stay in the spotlight for a while, even during the manga's temporary break.
