New Manga by Koume Fujichika, Creator of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, Launches December 11
Koume Fujichika, the acclaimed manga author behind The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses (Suki na Ko ga Megane o Wasureta), is set to debut a new manga titled Daiakutō Shōnen (The Great Villainous Boy). The official announcement came from the X (formerly Twitter) account of Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker magazine on Wednesday. The manga will be launched on Square Enix's Manga UP! web manga platform and app on December 11, 2024.
What’s the New Manga About?
The new manga's story centers around a boy who perceives everything in the world as worthless. He finds contempt in the pretentiousness of heroes who pretend to fight with dignity, the mindless conformity of his classmates, and the weakness he sees in himself. Disillusioned with the world around him, he aspires to become a solitary and ultimate villain, hoping that embracing this path will allow him to change not only himself but also the world. The premise reflects a deep internal conflict, as the protagonist seeks to transform his frustrations into a powerful persona.
Fujichika's previous work, The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, was launched in November 2018 in Gangan Joker magazine. The manga concluded in June 2023 with the release of its 12th compiled book volume. The romantic comedy, which centers around a high school boy who becomes infatuated with a girl who often forgets her glasses, was a hit with fans and was adapted into a television anime. The anime premiered in July 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming the series as it aired. The manga has also been licensed for English release by Square Enix Manga & Books, with digital distribution handled by Comikey.
In addition to The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, Fujichika also launched I’m in Love with the Older Girl Next Door (Tonari no Onee-san ga Suki) in 2021, a series published on Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross website. The manga concluded in October 2023 with four volumes in total. Seven Seas Entertainment has acquired the English license for this series and will release the first volume in March 2025.
With Daiakutō Shōnen, Fujichika is diving into a darker and more intense narrative, marking a departure from his previous romantic works. Fans of his earlier projects will be eager to see how he explores themes of villainy, self-discovery, and transformation in this new story. The release of the manga on Manga UP! on December 11 is highly anticipated, as Fujichika’s works continue to resonate with audiences globally.
