Moriarty the Patriot Manga Part 2 Returns on December 4

Exciting news for fans of Moriarty the Patriot: the second part of Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi’s acclaimed manga will begin serialization in the January 2025 issue of Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine, set to release on December 4. This announcement was made in the August issue of the same magazine.

Moriarty the Patriot Manga Part 1

The first part of Moriarty the Patriot concluded in December 2022 with the “Valley of Fellows” arc. This arc draws inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, The Valley of Fear, the fourth and final book featuring Sherlock Holmes. Since its debut in August 2016, the manga has garnered a significant following, thanks to its unique take on the classic Sherlock Holmes antagonist, James Moriarty.

Takeuchi and Miyoshi have worked together to bring this story to life, with Takeuchi handling the storyboards and Miyoshi providing the artwork. Shueisha published the manga’s 19th compiled book volume in February 2023, and Viz Media has been releasing the manga in English, making it accessible to a broader audience.

A Fresh Perspective on a Classic Villain

The protagonist, James Moriarty, is famously known as Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis in Conan Doyle’s stories. In this manga, Moriarty is reimagined as an orphan who takes on the name William James Moriarty after being adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he becomes determined to dismantle England’s rigid class system, addressing the societal ills it perpetuates.

Moriarty the Patriot has not only captivated readers but also inspired a successful television anime adaptation. The anime premiered in October 2020, with the second half airing in April 2021, totaling 24 episodes. The series concluded on Thursday, and Shueisha will publish the third and final volume on August 2.

Saita’s novels, which provide further depth to the Moriarty universe, have been released periodically since November 2018, with the latest published in October 2020.
