Golden Kamuy Film To Stream on Netflix on May 19th!
Netflix announced that it will be streaming the live-action adaptation of the popular manga "Golden Kamuy" starting May 19. The film originally premiered in Japan on January 19 and quickly rose to the top of the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. Within just three days, it sold over 356,000 tickets, earning approximately 533,848,690 yen (equivalent to about US$3.62 million).
Directed by Shigeaki Kubo and produced by CREDEUS, the film features a screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa and music composed by Yutaka Yamada. Notably, Hiroshi Nakagawa and Debo Akibe are credited for their supervision of Ainu culture, an indigenous people of Japan, which plays a significant role in the story. The theme song, titled "Kagayakerumono" (Those Who Shine), is performed by the Japanese rock group ACIDMAN.
Following the success of the film, WOWOW, a Japanese television network, is producing a live-action series based on the same manga. This series will feature the same cast and staff as the film and will continue the story from where the film left off. Fans can anticipate the series to premiere on WOWOW later this fall.
"Golden Kamuy" was originally serialized in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in 2014 and concluded its run in April 2022. The manga has garnered significant popularity, leading to the production of four anime seasons. Additionally, news of the anime's final arc being green-lit has excited fans, promising more adventures in the world of "Golden Kamuy."
