Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" Season 2 Set to Premiere in January 2026!
The Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime is officially getting a second season, set to premiere in January 2026. This exciting announcement came during a special livestream event called Sōsō no Frieren Talk no Mahō [Kinkyō Hōkoku] (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Magic of Talk [Status Report]). The event also revealed a brand-new teaser visual for the upcoming season.
About the First Season
The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End premiered on September 29, 2023, with a special two-hour episode. It made history as the first TV anime to debut in NTV’s "Kinyō Roadshow," a timeslot usually reserved for feature films. After this special debut, the anime aired weekly in NTV’s "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT" slot, running for two consecutive cours (six months) until March 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the anime worldwide, including an English dub.
What is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End About?
The anime is based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It follows an elf mage named Frieren, who, along with her companions, once defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the world. However, because elves live for hundreds of years, Frieren outlives her human friends. At the funeral of one of her comrades, she begins to reflect on life, relationships, and the meaning of time. She then sets out on a journey to honor her fallen friends' last wishes, discovering new experiences and emotions along the way.
The first season was directed by Keiichirō Saitō (Bocchi the Rock!) and animated by Madhouse, a famous studio known for anime like One Punch Man and Death Note. The series scripts were written by Tomohiro Suzuki (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., One Punch Man), and the character designs were done by Reiko Nagasawa (takt op. Destiny). The music, composed by Evan Call (Violet Evergarden), added an emotional depth to the story.
The Manga’s Success
The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga began in April 2020 in Weekly Shonen Sunday. It has won prestigious awards, including the 14th Manga Taisho Award and the New Creator Prize at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021. It was also named one of the best graphic novels for adults in 2022 by the American Library Association.
With the success of the first season and the manga's popularity, fans can look forward to another beautiful and emotional adventure when Season 2 arrives in January 2026!
