Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Manga to Include Special Novella with 14th Volume!
Shogakukan has announced that a special edition of the 14th volume of the popular manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sōsō no Frieren) will come with a 24-page novella titled Sora ni Hana wo Sakaseru Mahō (Magic to Make Flowers Bloom in the Sky). This special version will be released on March 18, 2025.
The novella is written by Mei Hachimoku, the author of The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye, who also wrote the prequel novel Shōsetsu Sōsō no Frieren Zensō (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End the Novel Prelude). The manga creator, Kanehito Yamada, supervised the novella's story.
In addition to the novella, the special edition will include a hardcover book designed to "feel like a grimoire" and will feature three new illustrations by Tsukasa Abe, the manga's artist. This special edition offers fans a unique and collectible experience, enhancing the appeal of the 14th volume.
The prequel novel Shōsetsu Sōsō no Frieren Zensō, which was released in April 2024, contains five stories that are not part of the main manga’s plot, giving fans more insight into the Frieren universe. The novel and the special edition of the manga are perfect for readers looking to dive deeper into the world created by Yamada and Abe.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is an ongoing manga series that began in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 2020. The series follows the journey of Frieren, an elf mage, as she reflects on the passage of time after the end of her long adventure with her companions. The manga has been well-received, and Viz Media publishes it in English. Viz Media is set to release the 12th volume of the manga on February 11, 2025, and continues to release chapters digitally on its Viz Manga app for fans worldwide.
In addition to the manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has been adapted into an anime, which premiered in September 2023 with a two-hour special. Fans of the anime can also look forward to a second season in the future, continuing the story that has captivated both manga and anime audiences.
